Our main goal is to repair. We like to say, “We repair because we care”! We know that HVAC replacements can be pricey so, we try to keep your unit running at optimal capacity, for as long as it can. AC repair is basically replacing smaller components. Most small components cannot be fixed and require replacement. Some examples of components that are often replaced are capacitors, fan or blower motors, contactors, and fuses. 

Understanding your repairs

A capacitor is a small device that is important in maintaining and disbursing electricity to all of the primary components of an AC unit. When it tests out of range, it’s time for a new one. The system is not receiving the proper amount of power to the designated parts. This causes your unit to not cool or circulate air in your home.

Indoor blower motors circulate air in your home. The outside condenser fan motor pulls heat from inside your home. The first indication that your outdoor condenser fan motor needs to be replaced is when there is very loud noise from the outside condenser or if it does not spin. For the indoor motor, no circulation of air in the home is usually the first sign of needing repair or if a burning smell is noticed when the AC unit is turned on.

A contacter is a device that once activated from the thermostat it will turn on your cooling components These cooling components are the indoor fan, outdoor condenser fan and compressor.

Fuses protect the unit from over amperage from the components which protects the wires in your ac unit or home. When your unit will not turn on at all this could indicate a needed replacement. When the fuses are blown it means no electricity is being sent to your unit. Further inspection may be advised to find the cause of a blown fuse.

Can a homeowner make such repairs?

Short answer-yes.

However, when replacing HVAC components there are risks and dangers for both the unit and the person working on it. These include electrical shock, shorting of components, or in some cases death.
